Funding your children’s education is no small task. It will probably represent the largest liability (outside of a home) that you will incur in your lifetime. Currently the average annual college tuition expense is $15,000 for public school, $30,000 for private school, and $45,000 for elite private schools. But these are after tax dollars. Assuming a 35% tax rate, you will need to earn $100,000 for four years of public school, $200,000 for private school and $300,000 for elite private schools - PER CHILD. Furthermore, the inflation rate for college tuition has been running double to triple the Consumer Price Index inflation rate. The recent economic depression has resulted in national inflation of college tuition fees by over 10% and in some state by over 14%. Moreover, the competition for scholarships have simply become cut-throat.
